Introducing The Inside Job

Real Scenarios, Real Advice, 20 min or less.

Overly Ambitious, Underdirected: What to Do When You Want It All, Fast

What is Inside Job?

Inside Job is a brand-new segment from Breaking and Entering’s Vault community, a video series where Geno Schellenberger and cohost Charlie Goldman (Brand Strategy Intern at Razorfish) tackle real career scenarios submitted by aspiring advertisers like you.

Each episode breaks down one scenario, pulling from industry knowledge, career strategy, and hard-earned experience to deliver direct, honest advice that cuts through the noise.

Think of it as your personal ad career coaching session. Recorded, dissected, and made available exclusively for Vault members.

This Week’s Scenario:

“I’m ambitious — but lost.”

This episode kicks off with a submission from a sophomore in college majoring in advertising. Here’s what they shared:

“I’m a sophomore in college majoring in Advertising with dreams of seeing my ads in the Super Bowl or winning major industry awards. In short, I’m overly ambitious. Right now, though, I feel stuck in an in-between phase, where I feel like I care more and am doing more than my peers, but it still doesn’t feel like enough. I’m also determined to speed-run the whole path to success, but I don’t have a clear plan of action. I want to know exactly what I need to be prioritizing to reach my goals, be successful, and do it as fast as I can.”

Sound familiar? If you’ve ever felt like your ambition outweighs your direction, you’re not alone. And this scenario is a perfect example of why Inside Job exists.
